ODrive Regen Clamp
ODrive Regen Clamp
The ODrive Regen Clamp provides a high-performance braking energy management solution for ODrives without an external brake resistor. It automatically detects power regeneration from downstream motor drives, and diverts excess energy to an external brake resistor.
Compatible and shown with ODrive S1 heat spreader plate, not included.
Comes with a 2ohm 50W power resistor. Compatible with up to 1000W resistors, see docs.

When decelerating a load, the kinetic energy will be regenerated to the DC bus in the form of electrical current. While batteries can typically absorb this regenerated power, most DC power supplies cannot, which can result in voltage rise on the DC bus and faults in the power supply and/or ODrive.
As such, an external regeneration clamp is required in situations where one or more ODrives (or other motor drivers) without brake resistors are used on a DC power supply.
The ODrive Regen Clamp offers:
- Ultra-low conduction losses, with an average power loss of 500mW at 20A, compared to 10W+ in similar products
- Automatic detection of supply voltage - no tuning of overvoltage thresholds needed!
- User-selectable external brake resistor (between 0.1-10ohm), allowing for up to 80A peak regenerated current dissipation at any bus voltage
- Connector for PT1000 RTD temperature sensors, for user-configurable brake resistor overtemperature protection
- Prevents any and all current from flowing back to the DC power supply (avoiding supply faults on sensitive power supplies)
Specs:
- Operating voltage range: 12-58V
- 80A/120A continuous/peak forward conduction (from supply to downstream system)
- 40A/80A continuous/peak brake resistor current
- Compatible with brake resistors from 0.1 to 10 ohms (see docs page for selection guide)
- Optional connector for PT1000 RTD temperature sensor, allowing brake resistor overtemperature protection
- Configurable brake resistor overtemperature trip point
- Clamps the downstream bus to within 2.5V volts rise of the input
